Today, GMA is the Philippine largest and leading brodcasting network. Its first broadcast on television was on October 29, 1961, GMA Network (formerly known as RBS TV Channel 7, GMA Radio-Television Arts then GMA Rainbow Satellite Network) is commonly signified to as the "Kapuso Network" in reference to the outline of the company’s logo. It has also been called the “Christian Network” which refers to the apparent programming during the tenure of the new management, which took over in 1974.

NOTE: In December 1972, RBS was allowed by the government to return on the air this time by its block time agreement with the National Media Production Center (NMPC), however with limited three-month permits. But due to limited licenses, difficulty in financial obligations, and disallowing foreign citizens and entities from owning and operating media companies in the Philippines, Stewart and the American Broadcasting Company, In 1974, RBS, including its TV and radio stations, were sold to a triumvirate composed of Felipe Gozon, Gilberto Duavit, Sr., and Menardo Jimenez who introduced a programming concept catering to the new audience. The new management acquired new equipment and introduced new programs and a new name, GMA (Greater Manila Area) Radio-Television Arts with its new identity, "Where You Belong" in 1979.

After Sign Off & Before Sign On Sequences:

(1994-present) after sign off, they are using fade in transition from black screen to SMPTE Color Bars with 1000 Hz tone. the EIA Color Bars (1975-1986) and EBU Color Bars (1987-1992) SMPTE Color Bars "GMA TV Ch. 7 EDSA TOC MLA" (1993-2005), "GMA TV Channel 7 GNC EDSA Manila" (2005) and "GMA Channel 7 TOC Manila" (2005-2014). "TSG200" (2011-present). before sign on, they use fade out transition from color bars to national anthem.

(2010-2013) after sign off, it redirects to SMPTE Color Bars with 1000 Hz tone without fade transition.

(2012-17) before sign on, the test card fades out to national anthem before station notice.

(2013-14; 2015-present) After sign off, it redirects to test card montage. later, the station will be unplugged as turning into SMPTE Color Bars with 1000 Hz tone. it will be unplugged after signed off along with GMA News TV. while GMA is unplugged, then GNTV losing statically (turning black screen) in 3 seconds then redirected to test card of GNTV until color bars, and later 2 channels both lost its signal. (in analog or digital tv without DTV box, it redirects to static noise, for digital tv with DTV box, the channel will disappear it's signal with the note appears "No Signal")

(2013-15) after sign off notice and national anthem, it redirects to GMA-7 2002 Logo Test Card, before Color Bars.

(2013-present) after sign-off, they are using their SMPTE Color Bars with 1000 Hz tone 4 to 5 minutes losing statically (turning black screen) in 3 seconds to SMPTE Color Bars with Slient before promotional programs as Test card. In 2015 to present. they are also airing GMA's social media accounts & pages like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as test card. and right before SMPTE Color Bars with 1000 Hz in 35 minutes before sign-on.

(2017-present) After sign off, they are still airing test card/color bars with 1000 Hz tone starting 1:10 AM to 4:50 AM on Monday, starting 12:35 to 4:50 AM on Tuesday to Friday starting 12:30 AM to 5:00 AM on Saturday and starting 12:30 AM to 4:30 AM on Sunday without losing it's signal. they are using programs or social media accounts test card every minutes before changing to color bars which also airing every minutes.

Network Restart

On December 27, 2015, The network restarted for first time. They didn't sign off. A reason why the network restarted:

  • They are airing live mass on Vatican City for Christmas.

After live mass on 2015, they aired the updated Philippine National Anthem and updated sign on notice followed by GMA Network's 2012 station I.D. & start of programming.

During the network's restart in, they updated the Philippine National Anthem & station notice.

After live mass on 2016, they are airing some plugs by GMA Network, then followed by Philippine National Anthem, sign on notice, station I.D. & start of programming.

Operates

GMA Network operate from Mondays thru Thursdays 5:30 AM to 12:00 midnight, Fridays 5:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Saturdays 5:00 AM to 12:00 midnight and Sunday 5:30 AM to 12:45 AM on analog TV and digital TV, and they operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on cable and satellite operators. They during Holy Week, they sign off 12:35 AM on Maundy Thursday and sign on every 6:00 AM and signing off every 12:00 MN. after programming, GMA signs off. then the network signs on before started programming and ended programming before signs off.
